By pushing the boundaries of traditional performance, he has carved out a space where improvisation and sound exploration serve as vital tools for expression. His work reverberates through the art music and electroacoustic scenes, encouraging listeners to rethink their perceptions of what a single instrument can convey in both live settings and recorded formats. Dörner's approach is characterized by a deep engagement with the physicality of sound, often incorporating extended techniques that challenge the conventional limitations of the trumpet. This exploration transforms the instrument into an expansive palette, allowing him to manipulate breath, resonance, and silence in ways that evoke a sense of intimacy and abstraction. His performances can feel like dialogues between the trumpet and its sonic environment, blurring the lines between noise and melody. In his compositions, Dörner frequently delves into themes of perception, presence, and the transient nature of sound. His writing balances between stark sincerity and impressionistic storytelling, inviting audiences to experience moments of stillness alongside bursts of chaotic texture. This duality reveals layers of meaning that resonate on both emotional and intellectual levels.
