Copyright & takedowns

northsound.fm is an editorial music discovery site. We use album cover art and artist photos to identify the works we write about — the same way print and online music publications have done for decades. If you're a rights holder and want content removed, here's how.

Where our images come from

  • Cover art: sourced from the Cover Art Archive (a joint project of MusicBrainz and the Internet Archive). Used to identify each release.
  • Artist photos: sourced from Wikimedia Commons, where they are made available under free licenses (CC-BY, CC-BY-SA, public domain, etc.).

Requesting removal

If you are the copyright holder (or authorized agent) for content appearing on northsound.fm and want it removed, send an email to copyright@northsound.fm with the following:

  1. The specific URL(s) on northsound.fm where the content appears.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
  3. Your contact information (name, email, mailing address, phone number).
  4. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized.
  5. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act on their behalf.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature.

We respond to valid notices promptly — typically within a few business days. Acknowledged content is removed from both our database and our cached storage.

Counter notices

If you believe content was removed in error, you may submit a counter notice to the same address with the standard counter-notice elements (identification of the removed material, the URL where it appeared, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe the removal was a mistake, and your contact and consent to jurisdiction).
