About Lau

Lau matters for its commitment to reshaping traditional folk music, breathing new life into a genre often seen as static.

By pushing the envelope of what folk can convey, they’ve inspired a generation of listeners to engage deeply with their cultural heritage while embracing innovative soundscapes that resonate with contemporary experiences. Their performances are communal experiences that invite audiences to not just listen but to participate in the ever-evolving narrative of folk. The band’s approach revolves around a meticulous blending of acoustic instrumentation and modern production techniques, creating a sonic landscape that feels both timeless and relevant. Their willingness to experiment with structure and arrangement turns familiar melodies into something fresh and captivating, challenging preconceived notions of folk music’s boundaries. This innovative spirit is reflected in their live shows, where they often incorporate improvisation, heightening the sense of connection between performers and audience. In their songwriting, Lau often explores themes of identity, landscape, and human connection through an impressionistic lens that balances sincerity with a touch of irony. Their narratives weave together personal stories with broader cultural reflections, inviting listeners to find personal resonance within shared experiences. The lyrical tone shifts fluidly between contemplative and celebratory, fostering an emotional depth that lingers long after the music ends.
