His work stands as a bridge between traditional jazz and more avant-garde expressions, pushing listeners to reconsider the boundaries of melody and rhythm. By emphasizing intricate harmonics and rich resonances, he has influenced generations of musicians who seek to explore jazz's deeper emotional landscapes. Vitouš approaches music with a painterly sensibility, using his instrument not merely for rhythmic support but as a primary voice in storytelling. His technique incorporates extended techniques that allow for an expansive sonic palette, transforming standard compositions into immersive experiences. This unconventional use of the double bass invites a dialogue around the role of instrumentalists in shaping musical narratives, inviting both freedom and discipline in performance. Common themes in Vitouš's songwriting often center on introspection and connection, with a tone that oscillates between meditative and exploratory. He tends to create soundscapes that evoke contemplation while allowing room for improvisational bursts of sincerity. The narrative quality of his playing conveys emotions not through lyrics but through the dynamic interplay of notes, making each performance a unique journey rather than a fixed destination.
