Her work invites listeners to reconsider the emotional depth and sonic potential of vibraphone and marimba, showcasing how these instruments can evoke nuanced feelings and complex narratives beyond their typical contexts. Brennan’s approach emphasizes exploration and experimentation, blending intricate textures with a strong sense of improvisation. By incorporating elements from contemporary classical, jazz, and ambient music, she crafts soundscapes that are both cerebral and visceral. This innovative process encourages an active listening experience, drawing audiences into the subtleties of her performance while maintaining a striking clarity in her musical intentions. Common themes in Brennan's songwriting often revolve around introspection, nature, and the interplay between tension and release. She employs a storytelling approach that is impressionistic yet deeply personal, using her mallets to paint vivid auditory images rather than relying on lyrical narratives. This creates an atmosphere where emotions resonate through melody and rhythm alone, inviting listeners to interpret their own connections.
