- Half Smiles of the Decomposed is Guided by Voices' final studio album before their initial breakup, released in January 2004. This album followed the band's critically acclaimed run in the 1990s and early 2000s, including their beloved record Isolation Drills. At this point, frontman Robert Pollard was exploring more structured songwriting while retaining the band's signature lo-fi aesthetic.
