What makes Period by City Girls notable?

Period not only debuted at number 16 on the Billboard 200 but also played a significant role in shaping the sound of female rap in the late 2010s. The mixtape's unapologetic themes of empowerment and sexuality resonated widely, influencing many emerging female rappers and contributing to a broader conversation about women's voices in hip-hop. Released in early 2018, Period was City Girls' debut mixtape, marking their entrance into the mainstream hip-hop scene after gaining attention with their single 'In My Feelings' alongside Drake. At this point, they were still relatively new artists but quickly established themselves as a force within the genre, particularly in the Miami rap scene.
