Career context
Released in 2003, 'Serart' marks a collaboration between Serj Tankian and Turkish composer Arto Tunçboyacıyan. This project came shortly after System of a Down's commercial success with 'Toxicity' (2001) and 'Steal This Album!' (2002), showcasing Tankian’s desire to explore more experimental sounds outside the band's nu-metal style.
