Released in January 1999, 'Volume 5: Poetry for the Masses' was The Desert Sessions' fifth installment in a series of collaborative recordings. By this time, Josh Homme had already established himself within the Palm Desert Scene, following the success of Kyuss and beginning to carve out a unique identity for The Desert Sessions through these experimental projects.
