About Abigail Washburn

Abigail Washburn reshapes the landscape of Americana through her deeply personal and culturally resonant music, which interweaves historical narratives with contemporary themes.

Her approach is defined by a commitment to authenticity, often incorporating elements of storytelling that draw from her experiences living abroad and her engagement with diverse musical traditions. Washburn’s use of the banjo as a primary instrument disrupts conventional interpretations of the genre, imbuing her sound with an undeniable sense of place while also challenging the boundaries of what folk music can embody.
