She has redefined what it means to be a vocalist in this genre, challenging preconceived notions of classical music's boundaries and accessibility while drawing new audiences into the fold. Her presence not only revitalizes the stage but also encourages a broader appreciation for modern compositions, making them feel urgent and alive. Hannigan's approach is marked by an intense physicality and emotional depth, embodying each role she undertakes with a visceral energy that resonates long after the performance ends. She frequently collaborates with avant-garde composers, bringing their works to life through a combination of innovative interpretation and meticulous technique. This collaborative spirit fosters a dynamic environment where new ideas can flourish, frequently leading to fresh interpretations that keep the music in constant dialogue with contemporary issues. Lyrically and thematically, Hannigan often navigates complex human emotions, exploring themes of identity, desire, and the interplay between vulnerability and strength. Her storytelling leans toward an impressionistic style, capturing fleeting moments and sensations rather than adhering strictly to narrative. This allows her performances to evoke deep emotional responses while remaining open to individual interpretation.
