Their innovative approach to instrumentation and songwriting challenges conventional norms, sparking curiosity and connection among listeners who seek authenticity and fresh perspectives. By blurring the lines between the intimate and the experimental, they push audiences to reconsider what indie music can embody. The duo’s process is marked by a hands-on craftsmanship that emphasizes an organic sonic palette. They utilize custom-made instruments, like the buke (a hybrid of a banjo and a ukulele) and the gase (a guitar-bass hybrid), which shapes their sound into something distinctively tactile. This unique instrumentation allows them to explore a rhythmic complexity that feels both intricate and approachable, creating tracks that captivate while inviting deeper listening. In their songwriting, Buke and Gase often delve into themes of disconnection, identity, and the interplay between personal experience and broader societal observations. Their lyrical voice balances sincerity with a touch of irony, weaving narratives that resonate emotionally without losing an element of playfulness or abstraction. This results in songs that are as much about feeling as they are about storytelling.
