His work resonates with a particular countercultural energy, carving out space for voices that defy conventional expectations. By straddling the line between performance art and musical expression, Peel helped lay the groundwork for artists who sought to convey their dissent through stripped-down soundscapes and provocative themes. Peel's approach blends an almost conversational delivery with an unrefined musicality, often eschewing studio polish in favor of an authentic, live feel. This immediacy invites listeners into a world where spontaneity reigns, reflecting the gritty realities of urban life. His performances were not just concerts but communal experiences that encouraged participation and engagement from the audience, fostering a sense of belonging among those who felt disenfranchised. Lyrically, Peel often explores themes of social justice and personal freedom, delivering messages with a mix of sincerity and irony. His storytelling is rooted in everyday experiences, offering poignant observations on life that resonate with authenticity. This balance between directness and nuance allows listeners to connect intimately with his narratives while reflecting on broader societal issues.
