By integrating the fluidity of improvisation with a cerebral approach, he challenges listeners to engage more deeply with the music, reshaping their expectations of what jazz can communicate. Houle's process is characterized by an intuitive interplay between composition and spontaneity. He often employs techniques that draw from various sonic landscapes, merging elements of structured pieces with freeform improvisation. This willingness to venture into uncharted territory encourages an atmosphere of unpredictability, allowing each performance to evolve organically and creating a profound connection with his audience. His songwriting often delves into themes of introspection and existential inquiry, conveyed through a voice that balances precision with emotional depth. The tone tends to oscillate between sincerity and ambiguity, inviting listeners to ponder while simultaneously feeling the weight of the music’s emotional pull. This blend of storytelling and impressionistic expression enhances the listener's experience, making each track resonate on multiple levels.
