About Hanzel und Gretyl

Hanzel und Gretyl matters because they carve out a distinct space in the industrial metal landscape, merging fierce sonic aggression with a theatrical aesthetic that engages listeners both sonically and visually.

Their work transcends traditional genre boundaries, pulling from German folklore and cyberpunk imagery to create a universe that feels both dystopian and fantastical, provoking deep emotional responses while also critiquing the societal constructs around them. Their process hinges on a powerful interplay of digital and analog elements, utilizing heavy guitar riffs alongside synthesized sounds to forge an immersive auditory experience. The duo’s innovative approach to live performances adds another layer of engagement, often employing costumes and stagecraft that transform their shows into darkly enchanting spectacles. This commitment to performance art enhances their music's emotional weight and draws audiences into their uniquely crafted world. Lyrically, Hanzel und Gretyl often explores themes of duality, technology versus nature, and the surreal nature of human existence through a mix of ironic humor and sincere reflection. Their songwriting balances storytelling with impressionistic elements, drawing listeners into vivid scenarios while maintaining an underlying sense of critique. The tone oscillates between menacing and playful, inviting contemplation on the darker aspects of life.
