By breaking down traditional barriers, he cultivates an accessible entry point into a genre often perceived as insular, inviting an expanded audience to engage with its nuances and emotional depth. His approach leans heavily on improvisation and spontaneity, where each performance feels like a conversation rather than a rehearsed presentation. Sels embraces the unpredictability of live music, allowing his compositions to evolve organically in real time, which creates an intimate bond between him and his audience. This process not only showcases his technical prowess but also invites listeners to experience the thrill of the unexpected alongside him. In terms of songwriting, Sels frequently explores themes of introspection and connection, weaving personal narratives with broader existential questions. His lyrical voice balances sincerity with moments of irony, often leaving space for interpretation that engages listeners' emotions without dictating their responses. The storytelling feels immediate yet impressionistic, allowing audiences to find their own meanings within the soundscapes he creates.
