Her presence in the scene shifted how audiences engage with storytelling in song; she turned traditional narratives into hauntingly intimate experiences that resonate deeply, evoking a sense of longing and vulnerability that remains impactful today. Dalton's approach is characterized by an almost primal sincerity, as her distinct voice weaves through sparse instrumentation, allowing each note to breathe and linger. She often eschews conventional song structures, favoring a more fluid interaction with melody and rhythm that captures the essence of human experience rather than adhering to strict forms. This results in performances that feel less like rehearsed renditions and more like spontaneous offerings from her soul. In her songwriting, Dalton frequently explores themes of love, loss, and the passage of time, often employing impressionistic imagery to convey emotions rather than straightforward narratives. Her tone carries a weighty authenticity that can shift from poignant to wistful, inviting listeners into her world while simultaneously leaving space for their interpretations.
