About Michala Petri

Michala Petri matters for her role in redefining the perceptions of the recorder, a traditionally overlooked instrument often relegated to elementary music classes.

By bringing a nuanced expressiveness and technical mastery to her performances, she has transformed how audiences engage with this instrument, elevating it from a mere novelty to a vehicle for complex musical expression that resonates in both classical and contemporary settings. Her approach is marked by a commitment to pushing the boundaries of what the recorder can achieve. Petri’s innovative techniques and willingness to explore diverse repertoires have not only expanded the sonic possibilities of the instrument but have also challenged preconceived notions of musical virtuosity. This dedication to reinvention invites listeners into an intimate dialogue with the music, emphasizing clarity and emotional depth. In her songwriting, Petri often explores themes of nature and human experience, weaving narratives that reflect both introspective moments and broader existential inquiries.
