His music resonates with those searching for a raw and unfiltered exploration of sound, pushing listeners to engage with the emotional weight of improvisation and spontaneity. Howard's work encourages a reevaluation of how jazz can convey both complexity and immediacy, inviting audiences into an intimate dialogue that transcends mere performance. Howard's approach is rooted in a fearless commitment to experimentation, often utilizing extended techniques and unconventional structures to create a sonic environment where chaos and beauty coexist. He orchestrates his compositions with a sense of urgency, employing dissonance alongside melodic fragments to evoke visceral reactions that feel almost tangible. This innovative process ensures that each performance becomes an immersive experience, with every note serving as a vehicle for personal expression rather than adherence to traditional forms. Lyrically, while often instrumental in nature, Howard’s music embodies themes of struggle, freedom, and transcendence through its emotive power. His storytelling is impressionistic, relying on the listener's interpretation to derive meaning from the tension between absence and presence that pervades his work. This ambiguity fosters a connection that is both sincere and elusive, allowing for diverse emotional responses.
