His work encourages a deep emotional connection that transcends conventional musical structures, creating an atmosphere where spontaneity and introspection coexist. By weaving together elements of jazz with indigenous Finnish influences, Kukko offers a fresh perspective that resonates both culturally and sonically. Kukko’s approach is marked by an exploration of texture and space, utilizing his mastery of multiple instruments to craft layered soundscapes. He often employs improvisation as a core component of his process, allowing the music to evolve organically in real-time. This fluidity creates an immersive experience for audiences, as each performance feels distinct and alive, rooted in the moment yet echoing broader themes. Lyrically, while his work may not always be word-driven, it often conveys rich narratives through instrumental storytelling. Themes of nature, identity, and emotional landscapes emerge as he channels personal experiences into his compositions. His tone balances sincerity with an introspective quality, revealing layers of emotion without overt sentimentality.
