His work matters because it invites listeners to reconsider what constitutes musical interaction, often blending elements of sound art, performance, and spontaneous composition. Through his unique sonic explorations, Beresford cultivates a space where traditional expectations dissolve, allowing for a fresh dialogue between the audience and the soundscape. The way Beresford creates music is as vital as the sounds themselves. He often employs everyday objects alongside traditional instruments, transforming them into unconventional sources of melody and rhythm. This innovative practice not only engages with the materiality of sound but also emphasizes process over product, encouraging a participatory experience for both performer and listener. His live performances blur the lines between composer and audience, inviting a collaborative spirit that redefines how music can be experienced. In his songwriting, Beresford frequently navigates themes of spontaneity and abstraction, using a voice that resonates with both humor and poignancy. His tone swings between playful exploration and reflective inquiry, creating an impressionistic narrative rather than a linear story. This juxtaposition fosters an atmosphere where meaning emerges organically from the interplay of sounds rather than explicit lyrics or conventional structures.
